Hi all. I’m having writer’s block when it comes to the name of this blog. I’m still trying to figure out what its identity will be. Design? Letterpress? Social Media? Dogs? Wedding? Life? Everything! If you have any ideas, let me know. I welcome thoughts with open arms.

Excited.

Hammerpress

I have an obsession with letterpress. For years now I have been so attracted to the art, look, and feel of this print technique. I love it so much that I am starting a letterpress class on July 20 and I cannot wait. It’s my hope some day to master the art myself and start my own business. Until then, I am inspired by many others who are doing great things. One being Hammerpress out of Kansas City.

Hammerpress

Next week I will make a trek up to the big KC to meet with Hammerpress to talk about my own wedding invites. My favorite aunt, Steph, got her invites made through them and can be seen below. (Deep periwinkle and brown). What’s even crazier is that Hammerpress was just featured in the new summer Martha Stewart weddings mag. Wowzers! Cannot wait to have my meeting.

Save the Manatee, drink a beer!

Mad Manatee

Alright, you might not be saving a manatee if you drink this beer but it sure will make you smile. Back in the day I used to have quite the fondness for manatees, frequenting the Dallas World Aquarium to stare into their tank. That might explain why these labels from The Richard Shepherd Group appealed to me so much. Not to mention the design is fantastic.

Bailey

This is Bailey, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix that is 1 1/2 years old. This poor girl was dumped at a gated business facility and needs to have a forever home. I must admit, I’m partial to black and white dogs and she’s so precious. To learn more about Bailey, visit Petfinder. Bailey is with Town and Country Shelter Rescue out of Fort Worth, TX.

Good sit, Olive

It took awhile, but Olive finally mastered the sit after a few weeks of treats and frustration. She’s now very good at shake and is moving on to “use your words.” I’ll keep you posted on how that goes…

Summer Coworking Tour, First Installment

June 29, 2009 § 1 Comment

It’s hard to believe it’s been (almost) two weeks since I resigned from my job. I worked in the interactive department at Concussion in Fort Worth, TX. I enjoyed what I did and learned an immense amount throughout the course of my employment there. From social media to DNN (don’t get too impressed-not the actual coding, but more of a “knowledge”), online media buying to SEO, I’ve got a lot of experience that I am forever grateful.

But something in me wasn’t fully content and knew I wanted to do something else with my life. Enter coworking. I first learned about coworking at SXSWi when I heard people speak about Conjunctured in Austin, TX and Citizen Space in San Fran. What a concept! I was hooked.

Thus, I’ve dived in head first doing research, emailing, tweeting, talking to whoever I can to get my head around this social movement. My first stop: Caroline Collective in Houston, TX.

I stopped by and spoke with Paul Tucker, office manager and Ned Dodington, co-founder about their experiences, as well as for tips on night life in Houston while I was there. :) They were both candid and generous with their advice and I left feeling inspired.

Caroline Collective is the first coworking space in Houston and just celebrated their one year anniversary at the beginning of this month. It’s a great, expansive space with several private offices, coworking rooms, and ample room for events. Not to mention a fantastic zebra in the courtyard. (I kick myself for not getting a picture)! Several non-profits are housed at CC, as well as several others who work in PR, social media, marketing, and even engineering!

I left with invaluable insight and am so happy I stopped by. One thing I have been surprised by in my research is the overwhelming generosity of those in the coworking community. Places like New Work City, Company | Dallas, Cubes & Crayons and more have reached out and their willingness to help has been astounding. It’s a true testament to the concept.

PorkChop

Everyday I am going to try and feature a dog that is available at a pet shelter in the D/FW Metroplex. My hope is that someone will find this dog and give it a forever home!

I’m kicking it off today with PorkChop, a 5 week old Terrior/Schnauzer mix. Look at those eyes! Learn more about PorkChop on Petfinder, a site I frequent often. PorkChop is with the Furever Friends animal shelter.

Olive

Meet Olive.

If you know me, you know where my heart belongs. Something I’m very passionate about is pet adoption and my heart belongs to my young, wild, crazy Whippet mutt named Olive. Travis and I adopted her from Dallas Animal Services last fall. After a hectic first month, Olive has settled into a routine and has become the best dog. She’s hilarious and full of personality. Am I obsessed? You betcha. And I have no shame.

You’ll get a daily dose of Olive on this blog and I hope she brings a smile to your face!
