October 29, 2009 § Leave a Comment
I’m heading off to College Station this weekend to visit my alma mater for the first time since graduation. I’m quite excited. What are your plans for the weekend? Anything fun for Halloween?
Next week: much more from me, its been quiet on the front this week.
I’d like to leave you with this, just because:

Shop Local, Support Handmade
October 25, 2009 § 3 Comments
As an aspiring entrepreneur and dreamer of having my own handmade-inspired business some day, I’ve really been trying to tap into local talent and events. I wanted to share two upcoming events, one sponsored by Etsy Dallas, that look like great shopping opportunities!
First up: Jingle Bash

Jingle Bash is sponsored by Etsy Dallas and will be on November 21st from 1-7pm. The website advertises: free admission, full bar, music, great food, indie shopping. Um, I’m there!! Rumor has it that they give killer grab bags out to the first 50 customers so I’m thinking about getting there early to snatch up one of those!
Second: Dallas Flea
The website doesn’t give much information as to the details of the event, but The Dallas Flea will be held on December 5. Local screen printer Dowdy Studio will be in attendance, according to their Etsy site. I’ll definitely be attending this event, as well!
With the holidays coming up, these events are sure to provide ample gift options for all of your beloved ones!
I Dream of Alexander McQueen

Ages ago I saw these first two dresses on a website and they’ve stuck with me since. Aren’t they fabulous. I just think they’re wonderful, whimsical, out-of-the-box dresses for a bride that would want something different.

How to Have a Happy Birthday

This is the cover art for the children’s book, How to Have a Happy Birthday, A Party Cut-Out Book from 1960. Isn’t it fantastic? Seeing as it is the day of my birth it makes me think, what is the recipe for a great birthday? Mine? Friends, family, Olive, and lots and lots of food that’s bad for me.
What’s your favorite thing to do on your birthday?
What Happened to Dear Facebook?
October 19, 2009 § 2 Comments
While laying in bed with Olive waiting for Mr. Essl to come home from his softball game I’m doing some serious perusing of the Facebook. Its been awhile. And now I remember why.
Remember when Facebook was about keeping in touch? Or more importantly, accumulating virtual friends and photo and wall stalking? There’s no fun in that anymore because of this:

Items like FarmVille, Mafia Wars, or “Which Twilight Character Are You?” fill my news feed. Incessant messages inviting me to be a fan of this photographer or that shop. It’s practically social media gone spam. I am a firm believer in the power of social media and the positive impact something like Facebook can have when used efficiently and effectively.
Perhaps that’s why I am so fond of Twitter these days. It’s opt-in, opt-out, filters content to 140 characters, and provides me with content I care about. But it leaves me wondering, with my internet-attention deficit disorder considered, what will replace Twitter in my mind next?
If I Liked to Dress Up on Halloween

I’d be one of these. Oh, also if I was a cute wisp of a thing as well. But, alas, neither fall under my category so I’ll just post for you to enjoy!

Munch

One can never tire of dogs dressed as hot dogs. Well, at least I can’t. If you have one, or a dog in costume for that matter, I’d love to see it!
