Vintage inspired DIY

Last week I was at one of my favorite antique stores, Butler’s Antiques, here in Fort Worth and spotted this amazing pillow case with the cutest retro bird print on it. I wanted to incorporate it into my Indie Genius display some how and thought – why not make it into a piece of art? So I put this little {super easy} DIY together for you so you can create a vintage piece all your own!
What you’ll need:
- Retro fabric of your choice – this can be a pillow case, table cloth, dish towel, fabric, etc
- Canvas – sized appropriately to your fabric
- Stapler
- Scissors
First, cut out your print or piece of fabric leaving as much extra around it as possible – you can always trim extra later.
Next, take your canvas and place your fabric across the center.
Holding both sides of your fabric against the canvas, flip it over. Pull the fabric taught and staple along one of the long edges.
Once you have stapled along the edge, pull the opposite side taught and secure that side with staples. Next, wrap the edges of the canvas as if you’re wrapping a present.
Pull the access fabric across the back of the canvas and staple. Repeat this step in each corner. Be sure everything is very tight and secure!
Once you have secured every corner, turn over and voila! You have your very own piece of vintage art.
