Studio Sweet Studio
January 16th, 2012 § 2 Comments
Last Friday I finally moved my Kluge out of storage, became the official owner of a Vandercook press, and moved into my first studio space. (Yippeee!) It was a whirlwind of a week. What began as a week prepping our shed in our backyard swiftly changed directions into organizing everything for a move into the new studio. I’m 100% thrilled to have my presses in place and start printing large scale jobs. I couldn’t be more excited to see the space grow and the opportunities it will bring. I plan on really expanding my letterpress classes, for one, and I’m looking forward to seeing their new direction. It’s going to be a work in progress – so bear with me – and I’ll keep you posted on updates. Until then, here are just a few images of the space, located at 207 East Broadway in Lander’s Machine Shop.
2012

Happy New Year! It seems the holidays flew right by and all I’m left with is a sad, dry Christmas tree and lights strung outside that remain unlit. I’m having a hard time letting go of 2011, but I’m ready and excited now to move forward through 2012. 2011 was a large year for me, with Anthropologie adding me to their roster of vendors, and deciding to add events to the repotoire of Blue Eye Brown Eye services. It was a year full of learning, both professionally and personally. All in all, I’ll fondly look back on 2011.
But it’s a new year. I’ve got a lot planned, several goals, and have high hopes for this year. I hope to move into an office/studio this year and out of the house. I plan on expanding my printing abilities by finally getting my presses into my shed in the backyard. I want to expand my event design side of the business. I’d love to keep a cleaner home and a tidier life in general. This is the year I want to just button it up. Really take control. So bring it on 2012! I’m ready!
What about you? What are your hopes, goals, and dreams for the new year?
Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! What are your plans for the big night? I’ve got to be honest, I’m not one for dressing up, but I do love to dress Olive for Halloween. She’s been a hot dog for the past three years. Maybe next year I’ll get her something new! Have a safe holiday and eat lots of chocolate!

Currently burning the Boulangerie Pumpkin Souffle candle in my office. It’s amazing. Just go buy it and thank me later.
Marfa

Nearly two weeks ago Travis took me to Marfa, Texas for an early birthday getaway. I’ve been wanting to go for years now, so Travis planned a trip there for me as a surprise! We set off on our nearly 8 hour drive and arrived on Friday afternoon to the most wonderful weather and amazing west Texas scenery. Here are just a few images from our trip.
Although the trek is long to get there, I cannot recommend a trip to Marfa enough. There’s an overwhelming sense of calm in Marfa. Not to mention, the art, food, and people are amazing. Hop on a bike and just peddle around town – it was our favorite way to stumble upon fantastic little hidden gems around town.
Where we ate: Maiya’s, Cochineal, Squeeze Marfa, Food Shark, Museum of Electronic Wonders and Late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour, Pizza Foundation, Jett’s at The Hotel Paisano
Where we drank: Padre’s, Planet Marfa, and bought some great wine at The Get Go
What we visited: The Chinati Foundation, Judd Foundation, Ayn Foundation, Prada Marfa, Ballroom Marfa, The Marfa Lights
Where we stayed: The Thunderbird Hotel
Mosey! Street Style

My friend, Anna, and I have started up a little side project called Mosey! It’s a street style blog covering Dallas and Fort Worth, and so far it’s been so fun putting it all together. I’d be tickled if you’d hop on over and give it a visit, or perhaps even followed us on Twitter! (@moseystyle). Here are a few examples of images you’ll see over there, and who knows, you just might be our next feature!

Pioneers of American Industrial Design Stamps

In line at the post office yesterday these stamps caught my eye on a poster. Naturally, I had to grab a couple of sheets on my visit because I think the simple, modern design and homage to great American designers is fantastic. Not to mention the colors pop on any envelope.
This Saturday!

What’cha doin’ this Saturday morning? If you’re in D/FW you should swing by the Fort Worth Anthropologie and make some letterpress cards with me! I’ll be there starting around 10 ’til noon with my Kelsey press. You’ll learn how to print your very own thank you cards and take them home with you! There will be treats, good company, great shopping, and fun all around. Hope you can make it!

Hella Jongerius is a Berlin based designer and artist that I came across in the recent issue of Dwell. This quote immediately stood out to me, I could not agree more.
