Travis and I are leaving for vacation tomorrow. Hawaii. Words cannot express my excitement. But, as a small business owner, I find it so hard to prepare for a long time away. Do any of y’all feel that way, too?
I’ll be back May 18, hopefully with a tan (as much as I can muster), and ready to get back at it. Don’t forget, calligraphy classes are open in May, June, and July!
Until then, here’s to umbrellas in my cocktails and sand in my toes! Aloha!

Travis hit the big 3-0 this past Tuesday and I have to say his birthday is one of my favorite days of the year. I love celebrating him, doing my best to make his day special with little surprises, and having fun! Happy Birthday, my dear Trav! I hope this year is your best yet!

Just one week ago I got home from a brief, yet much needed getaway with my family. My dad turned 60 at the end of February, so we whisked him away to paradise to celebrate – wine country. Needless to say, I’ve been a little sad since we got back. You can see why.
Highlights included: my giant coconut macaron at Bouchon Bakery, escargot and roasted chicken at Bouchon Bistro, perusing Oakville Grocery Co., the most beautifully merchandised market I’ve quite possibly ever seen, the intimate tasting and Cab Franc at family-owned Titus Vineyards, becoming a Sparking Rosé convert at Domaine Chandon (seriously, please try it now), Yountville, CA in general, St. Helena shopping (especially St. Helena Olive Oil Co., they’re packaging is divine), and Napa Valley Lodge, where there was a fireplace in our hotel room and champagne breakfasts every morning.
Now, is it 5:00 yet? This post has me craving some Rosé.

Happy New Year! How is 2013 treating you so far? I’m not sure if I’ve ever been so glad to wave goodbye to a year as I was for 2012. There were so many things I was grateful for in this past year, but we also endured the hardest thing we’ve been faced with yet as a married couple. That being said, I am filled with hope for a delightful year to come. The quote above describes my sentiments exactly. I am excited about the possibilities, and wish you the happiest, healthiest, most fun and special year yet.
A New Addition

This past weekend was a big one for Travis, Olive, and me – we added a new member to our family! We’ve been courting Ethel for awhile now, working with a rescue group to try to make her ours. And Friday it officially happened! She’s an Italian Greyhound rescue, and she’s just so sweet. For those of y’all that know Olive, you know she’s a dog full of personality – and was a terror for the first few months we had her. On the contrary, Ethel has been quite easy, save for a couple of little accidents. We’re all adjusting and I think she’s going to love our family – and it’s just so cute with two little black and white dogs running around the house! So look forward to a lot of new dog pics on this blog – of Olive and her Mini Me, Ethel.

This past weekend I had the grand opportunity to attend Blogshop, a weekend-long workshop taught by Bri Emery of Design Love Fest and Angela Kohler – both based in LA. Man, those are some talented and smart ladies. I cannot even begin to express how much I learned – not to mention had a ton of fun with my fellow blogger friends Katherine and Amanda. If you’re a blogger, a beginner/intermediate Photoshopper, and love learning stuff, I definitely recommend attending one of their workshops across the US/World because let’s face it – there’s not a single person on this planet that should not know the secrets of Liquify.

This past May, Travis and I had the pleasure of traveling for two weeks in Europe. As I drink my coffee from my Diamond Jubilee mug this morning, I’m feeling a little sentimental and wanted to share just a small sampling of images from our journey.
Our itinerary:
Venice > Lake Como > Milan > Florence/Tuscany > Munich/Bavaria > London
While I had traveled (very fortunately) to these destinations before, Travis had not been to any. So it was a lot of fun to see these wonderful cities through his eyes and re-discover them with him. One place I had not been, however, was Lake Como, and oh my goodness – if you ever have the opportunity to visit, please go. It’s a dream.
For a week of our travel, Travis was in a study abroad program with his MBA group, so I had the days to stroll, dine, get lost, and eat amazing food. I feel so lucky to have had this trip, especially with Travis. While in college I lived in Spain for 5 months. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, but undoubtedly being in Europe with Trav made this time all the better.

It’s my hubby’s birthday today – naturally, one of my favorite days of the year because we get to celebrate him! Because we both have a difficult schedule today, we did a little celebrating last night – dinner at Bolsa, followed by David Sedaris at SMU. David Sedaris was absolutely fantastic, we laughed ’til our cheeks hurt.
