Recycled Poms
I just found a local shelter that rescues, fosters, and adopts solely Pomeranians called Recyled Poms. And in true fancy dog style, they dress up and pose their available dogs making them ever-so appealing and down right precious. I challenge you not to smile. Or even giggle aloud. I’m pretty sure I need this first one.

Ginger

I’ve also failed miserably at posting about adoptable dogs in the area lately. So here I go! Back to inform y’all about some of the cuties out there that need forever homes. Meet Ginger, I think she’s precious. It could be because she has an uncanny resemblence to Olive, don’t you think?
Ginger is a Pitbull/Retriever mix that was turned in by her family because they could not take care of her anymore. She’s at North Richland Hills Animal Adoption and Rescue, where adoption fees range for only $80-$90. See more information at Petfinder.

It’s Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Day!
Petfinder named August 12 as Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Day in an attempt to raise awareness about those animals that have a harder time finding a forever home.

To learn more about the day, pets that have a harder time being placed, or see other resources regarding the topic visit Petfinder or my write-up on examiner.com!
And to bring a tear to your eye, here’s a lovely poem written about an older dog.
Old Gold
by Cheryl Minnier
She sits in silent misery.
Confusion colors all she sees.
The sights, the sounds, the smell of fear,
all seem concentrated here.
“The kids have gone.” “There is no time.”
They brought her here to leave behind.
The ghost of those who died alone
have now replaced the home she’s known.
She kept her family safe all those years.
No creeping threat escaped her ears.
So much love left to give,
she has fears to vanquish, slights to forgive.
Will all that end in this cold, sterile place?
Will the light slowly fade from this lovely white face?
A couch, just a piece, and a spot in the sun,
is all that she asks. She needs no “room to run.”
Into rescue she comes, her hopes rise anew.
But how many young faces obscure the view,
of a home of her own, a family to love?
Of a chance to start over, a way to rise above?
Can you find in your home a place for her to live
In return she will give, all in her power to give.
In Old Gold you will find a treasure so grand,
that the gift will be yours. Will you please understand?…
..that Seniors are special, the best that is Gold.
Their gratitude endless, as their spirit unfolds,
and they start to recover the joy that they knew,
’cause they know in their hearts…
that their savior…
is you.

Sheyla
I mean, seriously? This Basset Hound took my heart as soon as I saw her picture. Sheyla is with Arlington Animal Services and does not have a description as a majority of their animals are strays (just like Olive was). So hop on over to Arlington and get to know this adorable girl. Ahhhh. Can’t get over the cuteness. Find more on Sheyla at Petfinder.

Beau & Nicolas
Beau & Nicolas were rescued along with 500 other dogs at the Montague County seizure by the Humane Society of North Texas. They are both American Eskimo Dogs and are so beautiful! Because of their previous living conditions (constantly caged until this point) both Beau and Nicolas are timid and shy. However, Beau is really learning how to be a dog and quickly adapting to his new foster home and loving life. To learn more about Beau, you can visit Petfinder.
Nicolas is a little bit more shy than Beau (they are being fostered together) and is a quiet guy. However, he is learning to trust people more and would make a good companion. His write-up on Petfinder notes that Nicolas would do well with a home that already has a dog so that he can learn from that current pet.
They’re both so beautiful and just need some love and care so that they can trust humans again!

Penny
Fellow Fort Worth coworker Greg, also known as @agiletortoise on Twitter, needs a new home for his beautiful Australian Shepherd, Penny. He’s got a little website set up that gives a great description of her, which you can visit here.
Or visit my write-up on examiner.com.
She’s a beaut!

Roger

This little guy, believe it or not, was abandoned at the Brazos River Monday evening just west of Weatherford. Witnesses saw a white van stop, release him, and drive away. Luckily, some good Samaritans picked him up, named him Roger, and took him home. After a trip to the vet, he’s estimated to be 12 weeks old and will be 30-40 pounds full grown. And he’s in good health!

To learn more about Roger, you can visit his Facebook album (yes, he’s on Facebook) or read my write-up here.

Charlie
After posting about Amber, the beautiful Golden Oldie, I was so excited to see on Petfinder yesterday that they have deemed August 12 “Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day.” I think it’s so important to raise awareness about these animals who need a home just as badly as those cute puppies and kittens do. According to Petfinder, the hardest pets to adopt are:
- Senior/older pets
- Pets with medical problems
- Victims of breed injustice (In fact, pit bulls are the #1 breed put down in shelters).
- Shy pets
- Those that need to be the only pet
There are so many perks to adopting one of these pets, especially an older one. The top reason I can think of: most are already potty trained! That’s why I bring you Charlie today. Charlie is a 4 year old Dachshund who is great around people and pets, and is already housebroken. What more could you ask for? Charlie is with Pet Connection in Fort Worth, TX. To find out more about Charlie, visit Petfinder.
