February Calligraphy Classes are OPEN!
January 10, 2013 § 1 Comment
I’ve had several inquiries for calligraphy and letterpress classes recently, so I’ve established two new dates for calligraphy classes, and have expanded class size to a maximum of 5 students. I’d still like to keep them small for quality learning! For more information on the classes and booking information, click here.
For a temporary stretch I’m going to have to put a pause on my letterpress classes. We’re in a transition phase with my presses and working space. I hope to have everything wrapped up mid-spring and will update classes then. Thank you for your understanding!

Simple, Modern

A few images of a recent calligraphy project that called for simple, modern calligraphy. The bride had the invitations done by Tiny Prints – I love the charcoal and yellow color combination.
Letterpress Wedding Suite

Last week I wrapped up a wedding suite – and I’m so excited to share it with you. As always, wedding suites are such a big task, and yet so rewarding when dropped in the mail. I designed the invitations and did the calligraphy, while a new friend at Letterpress Graphics did the printing this time. Since my press is so small, larger pieces of work tend to be more of a challenge. I’m just tickled with the final result.
Calligraphy for Heather

Here are some pictures of a recent calligraphy project I finished. The invites were designed by Mae Mae Paperie. Aren’t they stunning? They’re perfect for Heather and Sam’s House of Blues wedding this October. Can’t believe it’s almost here!
A southern affair

I’ve been working on the calligraphy for Anna’s sister’s invitations for the past week. The wedding is in North Carolina and its been a lot of fun writing all of the wonderfully southern names on the envelopes. She had her invitations done by Smock, which I love (see last image).
Recycle your invites

After I sent out my invites for our wedding I found that I had so many extra. What to do with them? Well, my friend Courtney recently got married and she asked me to help her wrap her bridal party gifts. Since I did the calligraphy for her invites and helped her stuff the envelopes, I knew she had quite a lot of invites left over. After giving it a good looksy, I thought, I can use these for gift tags!
Her invitations had a lovely floral accent in the corners that made a really pretty little gift tag. So instead of having to buy 20 + more tags, we recycled! I measured off the corner I wanted to use, punched a 1/8″ hole in the corner and wrote the recipient’s name in script on the other side. Viola! Put those invites to use!
Phew!

Yesterday I completed my very first letterpressed wedding suite of invitations. Oh my goodness, it was like giving birth to something! It was so exciting for me to have this opportunity, and in addition it was an excellent learning experience. I did the calligraphy for all of the pieces, had plates made by Boxcar press, then printed them myself on my good ol’ Kelsey 5 x 8. And I topped it off with calligraphy on the envelopes. I took a few pictures of the process and the finished product is at the end.
Mixing ink to make the right color.
All inked up!
First phase complete, drying.
And the outcome…
A little bit o’ calligraphy

I just wrapped up a project for my dear friend and up-and-coming bride Courtney (and it’s actually her birthday today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY)! Here are a few pics of the project. I really loved working with the gold ink, and since I’m going to be at the wedding it was a lot of fun receiving one of these invites in the mail today!
This project was also a great learning experience for me as I got to know my calligraphy pen a lot better (oddly enough, I feel like I’m in a relationship with my letterpress and now my pen), got the feel for a big project and how to manage it, and understood what kind of supplies are involved. Truly, everything I’ve been taking on these days have been such great learning experiences and I’m excited to gain the knowledge.
